Pharmacological properties
Nifuroxazid is a derivative of 5-nitrofuran, it acts in the intestinal cavity, i.e. It is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Local inertness and impossibility of diffusion in organic systems and tissues distinguish it from other nitrofuran derivatives. The mechanism of action of nifuroxazide is not fully explained. Its antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties, like those of other nitrofuran derivatives, are probably due to the nitro-NO2 group, which has significant effects on intestinal infectious diseases. Gram-positive cocci were particularly sensitive to the drug: Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus pyogenes, and among gram-negative enterobacteria, E. coli, Salmonellae da Shigellae are sensitive to the drug.
Composition
Each 5 ml of the suspension contains:
200.0 mg of nifuroxazide,
excipients:
sucrose, ethanol 96%, carbomer, methylparahydroxybenzoate, sodium hydroxide, anhydrous citric acid, banana flavor, purified water.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration, nifuroxazide is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The antimicrobial and antiparasitic effects of the drug are manifested only in the intestinal cavity. Nifuroxazide and/or its metabolites are completely excreted in the feces. The rate of elimination depends on the amount of drug taken and the ability of the digestive tract to move.
Indications
- diarrhea caused by alimentary infections and intoxications in children and adults, in particular those caused by E. coli;
- chronic diarrhea during colitis;
- disruption of intestinal fermentation;
- acute and chronic diarrhea of non-specific and unknown etiology without invasive events;
- Iatrogenic diarrhea is caused by taking antibiotics;
- Symptomatic diarrhea during colon cancer;
- Some forms of acute attacks of infectious hemorrhagic rectocolitis;
- Prevention of traveler's diarrhea.
Dosage and Administration
For dosing, a 5-ml dosing spoon is used, which is divided into 2.5 ml.
Before use, the suspension should be mixed well.
Children from 6 months to 2 years: 2.5 ml 3 times a day.
Children from 3 to 7 years: 5 ml 3 times a day.
Therapy using nifuroxazide can last only 7 days.
Contraindications
- allergy to nitrofuran derivatives and/or auxiliary means of the drug;
- Babies up to 6 months old.
Adverse effects
Nifuroxazide is characterized by good tolerance. Very rarely, it can cause sensitization of the body and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation
There are no data on whether taking nifuroxazide during pregnancy causes possible harmful effects on the fetus.
Nifuroxazide is not absorbed from the digestive tract. Thus, there is no possibility of its excretion in breast milk. Therefore, the drug can be used during lactation.
Special instructions
During the treatment with Enterofuril, it is strictly forbidden to drink alcohol.
Enterofuril is not used in patients with fructose intolerance, malabsorption syndrome and sucrose-isomaltose deficiency.
The drug does not affect the patient's ability to drive and operate machinery.
Storage conditions and terms: Keep out of reach of children. Should be stored at a temperature of 15-30ºC.
